Description
The piers, boundary walls, and railings to Dover House date from the 18th century and are made of limestone and wrought iron. The structure consists of two units. To the left of the house, there is a pair of rusticated square piers topped with moulded cappings and decorative urns on reconstructed stone flared bases. These piers are connected by a low wall made of large squared limestone blocks topped with a stone weathered coping.
Across the front of the house, there is a full-width set of simple iron railings with spearhead tops, set against a dwarf stone wall. There is a small gate opposite the main entrance and another gate to the right, leading to Dover Cottage; both gates feature spearhead dog-bars. To the right, there is another square rusticated pier with capping, similar to the previous piers but made from original materials. All piers have a frieze with elongated losenage decoration. Adjacent to the right pier is a wall made of large limestone blocks, also topped with weathered capping, which typically spans the full width of the site.
