Description

The Watts Monument is a large pedestal tomb located about 23 meters north of the Hawkins Monument in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Frampton-on-Severn. It commemorates George Watts, who died in 1805, and Sarah Watts, who died in 1806. The tomb is made of limestone and features a gadrooned pyramidal cap topped with a ball finial, along with a moulding capping and a tall plinth. It has a reeded frieze and a carved astragal. The ends of the tomb are half-round and fluted, adorned with twin urns and drapery relief on the west side, and a weeping cherub with a tree and urn on the east side. The sides of the monument have raised oval panels with draped leaf relief. It is set within a large, formerly raised enclosure that has a moulded edge and is paved with plain headstones of other members of the Watts family.
