Description

Jennings, Garfield, and four unidentified monuments are located immediately north of the window to the east of the north door in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Frampton-on-Severn. The group includes a chest tomb for Thomas Jennings, dated 1787, and five headstones arranged in a line to the north from the west end. The monuments are made of limestone. The chest tomb features a flat top, a moulded plinth and capping on the base, and gadrooned quarter balusters. The sides of the chest have circular raised panels, with a moulded edge on the north side, a recessed floral relief on the east end, and an urn on the west end. The headstones, mostly unidentified and dating from the mid to late 18th century, include the furthest north headstone for William Garfield, dated 1771. Among the headstones, two have square tops and three have rounded tops, with the central three displaying carved cherub's heads and wings.
