Description

Fifteen monuments, including the Kingdon tomb, are located about 13 to 23 meters south of the first aisle buttress from the east in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary. The group includes three chest tombs arranged from north to south: the Kingdon tomb from 1807, an unidentified tomb from 1729, and another from the mid-18th century. There are also twelve headstones from the mid to late 18th century, with six located between the Kingdon tomb and the west end of the unidentified tomb from 1729, and six to the south of the east end of the latter.

These monuments are made of limestone. Both the Kingdon and the unidentified tomb from 1729 feature a stepped tent top with a curved top section, roll moulding, a moulded plinth, and capping on the base, with slightly fielded ends and sides. The Kingdon tomb has a piece missing from its plinth on the south side, while the unidentified tomb has low relief flanking side strips and a plain frieze. Among the headstones, two central ones display high relief cartouches and cherub's heads, while the rest are plain. To the south, three headstones also feature high relief cartouches and cherub's heads, with the remainder being plain; one is dated 1788. The unidentified tomb to the southwest was almost completely overgrown at the time of the survey in September 1985, but it appears to have a stepped tent top, moulded plinth and capping on a double base, plain ends and sides, fluted side strips, and some low relief carving.
