Description

The Gardner and Unidentified Monument is located about 9 meters northeast of the Jennings Monument in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Frampton-on-Severn. This Grade II listed site features two chest tombs. The tomb to the north is unidentified and dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, while the southern tomb belongs to Edward Gardner and is dated 1715. Both tombs are made of limestone. The northern tomb has a flat top with splayed capping, lacks a visible plinth, and has slab sides and ends with plain ovals inset into the sides. The Gardner tomb also has a flat top, but it features a moulded plinth and capping on the base, with quarter baluster corners. Its sides have large moulded rectangular panels, and the ends are adorned with incised lozenges. At the time of the survey in December 1985, the site was partially overgrown.
