Pair Of Pearce Monuments,About 4M North-North-West Of North-West Corner Of Nave In Churchyard Of Church Of St Mary The Virgin

The pair of Pearce monuments, located about 4 meters north-north-west of the north-west corner of the nave in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary the Virgin, consists of two chest tombs. The first tomb commemorates Joseph Pearce, who died in 1787, and the second is for James Pearce, who died in 1831. Both monuments are made of limestone and feature flat tops with a moulded plinth and capping, resting on a large moulded base that was formerly enclosed by railings.

The tomb of Joseph Pearce includes fluted quarter balusters and a fluted frieze adorned with applied acanthus decorations, along with moulded rectangular end and side panels. In contrast, the tomb of James Pearce has plain quarter balusters, with sunk rectangular side panels and end panels that are also sunk and rectangular, featuring a rounded projection at the top.
