Description

The William Pearce Monument is a chest tomb located about 3 meters south of the south-west corner of the nave in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin. It commemorates William Pearce, who died in 1741. The tomb is made of limestone and features a flat top with a moulded plinth and capping on a two-step tall base. It has corner piers and central panels on the long sides that are adorned with scrolled foliage relief. The ends of the tomb display a small cartouche on the east side and foliage on the west side. The sides are divided into two sections, each featuring raised elongated hexagonal inscription panels with foliage spandrels.
