Description

The Cole Monument is a chest tomb located about 15 meters west of the north porch door in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Berkeley. It commemorates Robert Cole, a gentleman who died in 1808. The tomb is made of limestone and features a flat top, a moulded plinth, and capping on a tall base. The corners are indented, and the ends display a diamond frieze along with a raised shield that has a cross and the letter C on the east side, while the west side has a plain oval. The sides of the tomb are adorned with oval panels that include a swag, and there is an inscription on the north side.
