Description

The Bishop Monument, located about 7 meters north of the Cole Monument in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, is a chest tomb dating from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a flat top with a moulded plinth and capping. The base is built up with bricks on the west side and has indented corners. The end panels are decorated with a diamond frieze and an acanthus base frieze, along with fluted returns and circular raised panels surrounded by carved drooping wreaths. The sides of the tomb have large oval raised panels with a similar decorative surround and a rosette above.
