Description

The Tainton Monument is a chest tomb located about 6 meters north-west of the north-west pier of the porch in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. It commemorates Samuel Tainton, who died in 1783, among others. The tomb is made of limestone and features a flat top with a moulded plinth and capping. It has gadrooned quarter balusters with reliefs. The end panels display an urn on the west side and another device on the east side. The sides of the tomb are adorned with large raised oval panels that include rosettes in the spandrels.
