Description

ST BRIAVELS BIGSWEIR S)O 50 SW 5/129 Bigsweir House 7.8.54 - II Detached country house. Mid C18. Cut and squared sandstone over chamfered offset plinth, hipped Welsh slate roof to moulded wood eaves cornice, end stacks, left in brick and right in stone; deep back wing is sandstone rubble with Welsh slate roof. 2½ storeys and basement, 5-windowed, 3 small 2-light hipped dormers over 12-pane sashes with broad sash boxes to stone voussoirs and stone cills; in basement, left, a 2-light chamfered mullion casement and right similar set back from segmental head. Central pair C20 glazed doors in sandstone Roman Doric portico with pediment approached by 8 steps with nosings in low walls flared to piers with broad moulded cappings and urns. To right a flat-roofed C20 extension. Left return has one bay as front plus blank opening. Back wing is 2 storey, built into land-slope becomes one storey. Interior not inspected.
