Description
1 Greenside is an early 19th-century house constructed from coursed, squared, and dressed sandstone, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high with attics and features three windows on the first floor, along with a single-storey wing at the rear right. The central doorway consists of a six-panel door, where the lower panels are flush, and an overlight with Gothick glazing bars. This entrance is framed by a raised ashlar surround with sunken panels and a moulded cornice. The flanking windows are 16-pane sashes with projecting sills and channelled wedge lintels, while the outer first-floor windows mirror this design, with the central window being narrower and featuring a sash with glazing bars. The house displays shaped kneelers and square-cut gable copings, with end stacks that have tabling.
At the rear, a porch located at the angle with the wing incorporates reused masonry and an old studded door, believed to have originated from the Chapel of Holy Trinity, which was demolished in 1827. The end stack of the wing has been heightened in brick. The eaves of the main range are interrupted by a large gable. The right return of the house features numerous old casements with glazing bars. Inside, there is a contemporary staircase with a slender balustrade. The rear wing has infilled multiple openings leading to the kitchen range, one of which has a moulded cornice, and there is a corner bread oven.
