Description
Glossop Lodge is an early 19th-century lodge that was originally built for the Wentworth Estate. It has been restored and extended around 1980. The building is constructed from coursed, horizontally-tooled sandstone and features a Welsh slate roof. It is a small hexagonal structure with low, gabled wings at the front and sides. At the rear of the side wings, there is a 20th-century extension that occupies the position of a former walled yard. The lodge is a single storey and is accessed from the rear.
The front wing has a gable entry that now features dummy double doors and an infilled overlight, along with a plain frieze and moulded pediment copings. The frieze continues around the building above the sashes, which have glazing bars in most walls, although some windows are blind. All openings have recessed aprons and plain lintels. There are small recessed panels above the frieze on the angled side walls of the hexagon. The eaves overhang with wooden-bracketed gutters, and the hexagonal structure has a renewed hexagonal stack with an ashlar cornice.
