Description
The Greasbrough War Memorial and its railed enclosure were built in 1925 by James Totty of Rotherham. Constructed from ashlar limestone, the memorial features wrought-iron gates and railings, as well as cast-iron lamp standards and urns. The small cenotaph is designed in the form of a triumphal arch, and the garden surrounding it is enclosed by railings, with a double gate flanked by lamp standards that face Church Street.
The monument includes a plinth with plaques that bear dedications and the names of men and women who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars. Inside the arch, there is a vessel with an eternal flame set beneath a trabeated opening, with decorative swags above the arch. The memorial is flanked by urns created by Yates and Hayward of Rotherham. The gates are scrolled, and the lamp standards have light fittings in lyre-shaped brackets, complemented by plain railings.
