Description
Numbers 2 and 4 Dam Head is a house that has been divided into two dwellings. It likely dates from the early 18th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble sandstone and features a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high and has three openings on the first floor.
At the rear left corner, there is a 19th-century addition with a separate roof, while the rear right corner has been infilled by an added wing, partly built of brick. The building has large quoins and a central doorway that features a 20th-century door set within a bonded ashlar surround. To the right of the doorway, there is a horizontally-sliding sash window in a square-faced surround with a deep lintel, while the window to the left has been widened and fitted with a 20th-century casement.
The first-floor windows are similarly styled, and there is a blind opening above the door with a square-faced surround. The building has external end stacks with renewed brick shafts; the stack on the left is much larger, featuring several offsets, and its upper part has been altered to match the added block on the left, which also has similar offsets to the front side-wall stack.
