Description
Mork Farmhouse is a Grade II* listed farmhouse dating from the 16th to 17th century. It is constructed from cut and squared sandstone and features a Welsh slate roof. The building is designed in an L-shape, with a full-height porch that includes a staircase in the internal angle at the front. The house is positioned across a hill slope, with a cellar on the left side and a large external stack, along with smaller stacks on the other two gables.
The front elevation has 2½ storeys plus part cellar and is arranged with three windows on the first floor. The left side features a 3-light over 3-light mullioned casement above a plank door set in a broad frame under a 4-centred chamfered arch. The porch contains a 2-light over 1-light casement above a plank and stud door in a broad frame, which is set back from a stone corbelled projection. On the right side, there is a 2-light window without a drip above two 3-light casements, both with stopped drips.
The gable facing the road has double-chamfered lights at the roof space flanking the stack and a blocked opening with a stopped drip at ground level on the left. The rear of the house features a 20th-century lean-to, and on the first floor, there are two 2-light mullioned casements with stopped drips, along with a third opening that is now blocked.
Inside, a stone staircase rises from the cellar to the entrance porch, leading to a tight spiral oak stair with solid treads and a newel that ascends over the main entrance. The interior showcases many heavy chamfered beams, although no original fireplaces are currently visible. The roof is an A-frame structure with original principal members, including one truss that is centrally located above the projecting porch, while the rafters are later additions. There is also one section of framed wall with lath and plaster.
