Description

Stowe Court is a large detached dwelling located on Stowe Hill, with origins dating back to the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The building features a mix of rendered and ashlared stone, with roofs made of stone slate, double Roman tile, and concrete slate. It has an L-plan layout, likely constructed in two sections. The inner roof slopes are covered with stone slates, while the outer slopes use replacement materials.

The wing facing the road is one storey high and has a three plus one window arrangement. It includes three 2-light 19th-century casements with ogee heads set in stopped drips to flush gables, above two 12-pane sashes with voussoir heads. There is a central pair of 20th-century glazed doors and another 12-pane sash on the far right. The return wing on the right is two storeys tall with a two-window arrangement, featuring 12-pane sashes above small 2-light 19th-century casements, all with voussoirs and stone cills, and a plank door on the far right.

The building has two gable stacks and one ridge stack, all brought to ridge level and finished with paired diagonal flues in sandstone, except for the right wing, which has brick stacks. The interior has undergone significant modifications and includes a stick baluster stair, some 19th-century shutters, a section of timber-framed walling near the junction of the wings, heavy beams, and evidence of a spiral stair recess on the upper floor, left. Adjacent to the doorway at the right end of the right wing is a stone water tank measuring approximately 2 meters by 2.5 meters by 1.25 meters, seemingly carved from a single block of sandstone.
