Description

Church Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with significant modifications made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof on the road side, while the far side has clay double-Roman tiles. On the entrance side, there is a large external stack positioned off-centre to the right, which has been cropped and capped in the late 20th century. The building has two storeys; on the left side, there is a 12-pane sash window above a 2-light casement. Next, there is a small dormer above an old plank door set in a round-headed opening leading to a porch. To the left of the stack, there is a 2-light casement above a small pointed light, and to the right, a 3-light casement is situated above a blocked 4-centred opening, which may have been the original entry, alongside another 3-light casement. The far side of the building features various windows, including a 3-light stone chamfered mullion casement near the centre of the ground floor, and a 20th-century door with an early drip-stone above it, which has square tops. Inside, the middle room on the ground floor boasts a fine moulded 16th-century fire surround, a 3-light opening with hollow chamfer mould mullions, and a 4-panel ceiling. There is also a 19th-century straight stair with stick balusters. The adjoining barn, which was previously listed with the farmhouse, is no longer part of the property.
