Description
Birchfield House is a dwelling built in 1908. It features a smooth rendered exterior and a double-Roman tile roof. The front is lofty with two narrow gables that have decorative barge-boards. The house is two storeys high and has three two-light casement windows with glazing bars, situated above a projecting square bay that includes French doors set in a verandah over a four-light casement window. There is a small square opening to the basement on the return wall, and two replacement glazing bar sash windows are located here. The entrance is found in an extension at the back of the house.
Inside, there is a stick baluster stair. Birchfield House appears to have been an extension to an older dwelling, which is now the Child Development Centre. Its design and location contribute to a significant architectural presence along a very narrow road.
