Description

34 and 35 Market Place is a former pair of houses that have been converted into one shop. They date from the late 18th century. Number 34 features incised render, while Number 35 is built of coursed and dressed rubble stone. Both buildings have hipped slate roofs and stone end stacks, and they stand three storeys tall, with Number 34 being slightly lower. There are six windows in total, which are glazing bar sashes with stone lintels that have incised voussoirs. The windows are arranged in two bays for Number 34 and four bays for Number 35. A continuous 20th-century shop front spans the ground floor of both buildings. Inside Number 35, some original joinery and fittings remain, making it a good example of town house design, despite the alterations on the ground floor. The house, warehouse, and link buildings at the rear are not included in this listing.
