Description
The monument to Francis and Dorathy Seborne is a chest tomb located approximately 9 metres south of the south porch of the Church of St Mary and St Peter. It dates from the late 17th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a thick top with a moulded edge, sunk panels adorned with enriched mouldings on the north and south sides, and richly carved hangings on the east and west. It has a moulded base and was partially sunk at the time of the survey in December 1983. The monument showcases fine 17th-century incised lettering, including the inscriptions for Dorathy Seborne, who died in 1691 at the age of 76, and Francis Seborne, who died in 1696 at the age of 84. This tomb is a notable example of the funerary carver's art from the 17th century.
