Description

This is an unidentified chest tomb located in the churchyard approximately 9 metres southeast of the south porch of the Church of St Mary and St Peter. It dates from the late 17th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a thick flat top with a moulded edge and deep panels, adorned with rosettes in high relief on the east and west sides. The base is sunk and broken, and the top was displaced at the time of the survey in December 1983. There is no name currently legible on the tomb, but part of an inscription on the north side reads 'October 168..'. This monument is situated on a raised section of the churchyard, immediately southwest of the climbing approach path, and about 2 metres north of the Mary Smith monument.
