Description

The monument to Christian Webley is a chest tomb located in the churchyard approximately 14 metres southeast of the tower face of the Church of St Mary and St Peter. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a flat top with a moulded edge, quarter balusters, and large panels with drafted edges on the north and south sides, as well as similar panels on the east and west sides. The base is partly broken, as noted during the survey in December 1983, and it stands on a platform. The top of the tomb is inscribed with the name Christian Webley and the date 1776, although other inscriptions, likely from earlier dates, are no longer legible. This monument is aligned with the monuments of Elinor Webley and Walter Webley and is part of a group of four family memorials.
