Description
The Wintle monument is a short chest tomb located about 8 meters south of the tower of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Westbury-on-Severn. It commemorates Jonathan Wintle, who died in 1731, and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge and slightly indented corners on the long sides. The corners are adorned with very elongated quarter-square balusters. The south face of the tomb has a head with wings at the center top, which is framed by a well-carved and preserved rococo design. The north face is plain, while the west end has a raised rectangular panel with an indented semi-circular top, cyma edge moulding, and rococo spandrel. The east end features a fielded panel with scalloped top corners and rococo decoration. The plinth has a chamfered top. This monument is part of a group of five listed Wintle monuments.
