Statue in T shaped canal, Westbury Court Gardens

Statue; probably mid C17 on early C18 base; ashlar stone. Square plinth carrying statue, standing at top of T canal. Offset just above water level; plinth with moulded top, tall base with moulded cornice. Above a short square base to statue set back behind face of base.

Statue of Neptune, left foot on a dolphin, left arm holds tail against his hip, right arm raised, bearded face; cloak falls down from shoulders, lying over dolphin. Statue considered to be mid C17, in style of Nicholas Stone; plinth is of same date as canal, however, probably 1715-'25. Forms part of group with boundary wall and gazebo, (g.v.).
