Description
Evergreen Farmhouse, located in Great Barrington Village, is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, with a mid to late 18th-century addition. The early range is built from roughly squared limestone, while the later range features coursed squared and dressed limestone. The roof is made of stone slate, with artificial stone slate used on the early range.
The mid to late 18th-century section faces the street and is rectangular in shape, standing two storeys high with a cellar underneath. It has a symmetrical facade with three windows, which are lit by two and three-light metal casements that include glazing bars. A central 20th-century six-panelled door is set within a flat-chamfered surround, topped by a flat stone canopy supported by moulded stone brackets.
At the rear, the earlier range has two and three-light casements, with some set in flat-chamfered stone surrounds, indicating they were once stone-mullioned casements. The early range also features four courses of pigeon holes at first floor level on the east-facing wall. The mid to late 18th-century range has stepped coping and stacks at its gable ends, while the late 17th to early 18th-century range has an axial stack. All stacks are capped and have skirtings.
A 19th-century looped iron railing runs along a low dressed limestone wall at the front and continues around the left gable end. The interior has not been inspected.
