Description
The Smithy is a building located in Great Barrington, dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring ashlar stacks. The building has a rectangular plan with a gable end facing the road, and there is a single-bay extension to the gable end that is set away from the road, also made of coursed squared and dressed limestone. The roof is covered with stone slates and has ashlar stacks.
The main body of the building includes a large fixed four-light casement window with horizontal glazing bars. To the right, the single-bay extension has double plank garage doors. The gable ends of the main body have stacks with moulded cappings and skirtings. As of June 1986, the building was still functioning as a smithy. It is part of the Barrington Park Estate.
