Description

Barrington Farmhouse is a detached house located in Great Barrington, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It features an ashlar facade, while the rest of the structure is made of coursed squared and dressed limestone. The house has a 'T'-shaped plan and includes a flat-roofed extension at the rear left, which is not of special interest.

The facade is symmetrical, two-storeys high with a part basement, and has five windows. These windows are lit by 19th-century double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods and horizontal glazing bars. The central entrance consists of a 20th-century six-panel door set within a flat-chamfered surround, topped by a flat canopy supported by moulded stone brackets.

On the left gable end, there is a blocked two-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement, while the rear extension features a two-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement. There are steps leading down to a cellar at the gable end of the extension, with a two-light stone-mullioned casement to the right of the cellar door. The gable ends of the main body have flat coping, and there are gable-end stacks with moulded cappings and skirtings, as well as a lateral stack on the extension. The interior has not been inspected. The property is part of the Barrington Park Estate.
