Description
This pair of adjoining barns, located about 4 meters west of the stable block at Greendrive Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th to early 19th century and may have been built in two phases. They are constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring a stone slate roof on the south side and an artificial stone slate roof on the north side. The barns have a long rectangular plan that steps down a slope and include two projecting porches on the north side, with a lean-to situated between them.
The lower barn has a two-storey gabled porch that contains a single-light window in the gable and pigeon holes above it. There is a low double-width doorway with a cambered-arched head on the wall opposite. The upper barn features a single-storey gabled porch, which has a low double doorway with a timber lintel opposite and a single-width doorway to the left.
Inside the upper barn, there are five bays supported by original collar and tie-beam trusses. The lower barn also has five bays with collar and tie-beam trusses that include raking struts. The upper room of the projecting porch is lined with pigeon holes, and there are remains of a wattle and daub partition that divides the pigeon loft from the rest of the barn. This structure is part of the Barrington Park Estate.
