Description

The Martin's Nest is a small cottage located in Little Barrington village, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century. It adjoins Greycote, another listed building. The cottage is built of coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof and a single ashlar stack. Its rectangular plan includes a lean-to on the north side. The cottage acts as a single-bay extension to the left gable end of Greycote. The gable end forms the front facade, featuring a two-light wooden casement window to the first floor and a similar casement below. A 20th-century glazed door with leaded panes is positioned to the right of the gable. All openings in the gable end have cambered-headed surrounds. A 20th-century part-glazed plank door, alongside a casement window with a horizontal glazing bar above, are found in the lean-to on the right. The roof is half-hipped. An axial stack rises to combine with the stack at the gable end of Greycote. The interior has not been inspected.
