Description
The Malt House is a house in a row that was formerly a malthouse, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a slate roof with a stone ridge and a single ashlar stack. The building has a rectangular plan and is two stories high with a two-windowed facade. The facade is lit by 20th-century two and three-light stone-mullioned casements that are set slightly proud of the facade. There is a 20th-century plank door located off-centre to the right, which is sheltered by a flat stone canopy supported on moulded brackets. To the right of the door, there is a single-light fixed casement within a flat-chamfered surround. The stone-mullioned casements to the left of the door seem to have been inserted into a larger opening. The right gable end features flat coping and a ball finial. Inside, there are remains of the malting kiln still in place, and a bull's-eye window has been reused from the gable end of No 75, located over the stairs. The building is included mainly for its group value.
