Description

Spring Hill Cottage, which incorporates the Post Office, is a house located in Little Barrington Village. The main part of the building dates from the 17th century, while the adjoining cottage was added in the 19th century. The structure is built from coursed squared and dressed limestone and features a stone slate roof with an ashlar stack.

The main body of the cottage has a rectangular plan and is two storeys high. On the first floor, there are two wooden casements with two lights each. The ground floor features a six-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with a central king mullion, and all windows are fitted with leaded panes. A stopped hood from a window that once lit the left gable end is visible above the roofline of the adjoining cottage. The building has a moulded plinth.

The adjoining cottage consists of two bays and has a two-light wooden casement with horizontal glazing bars on the first floor, as well as a similar two-light casement on the ground floor. There is a 20th-century plank door to the left of the ground floor window, and a gable-end stack is present. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
