Description
The Old Stores is a former row of three cottages, with the left cottage having been converted into a Post Office and store, and now all are combined into one dwelling. The former Post Office, dating from the 19th century, is constructed of coursed squared limestone with ashlar quoins and has a limestone slate roof. The cottages to the right, from the 18th century, are made of limestone rubble and feature thatched roofs with brick stacks at the former gable ends.
The former Post Office is two storeys high, while the cottages to the right are each one storey with an attic, illuminated by single dormers under thatched hoods. These dormers contain 18th-century casements with leaded lights. The entire building now has a three-windowed façade. The former Post Office features a three-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned window, along with one, two, and three-light 19th and 20th-century metal casements, mostly with horizontal glazing bars and some with brick segmental heads. There are also other 20th-century casements at the rear. A blocked doorway with a window inserted can be found in the front of the former Post Office.
Inside, there is a large stone fireplace with a bressumer against the far right wall. Only the ground floor has been inspected.
