Description
The barn at Wontley Farm dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring courses of varying depth, and has a corrugated asbestos roof. The barn is rectangular in shape and has a projecting central porch on the south side, with an extension at right angles to the barn on the left of the porch.
The south front includes a central gabled porch that is one and a half storeys high, with a double-width entrance. Above this entrance is a blocked 2-light stone-mullioned casement window for the granary. There are long ventilation slits on either side of the porch, and a single-width plank door is located far to the right. The gable end of the extension has a single-width doorway, and there is a 2-light stone-mullioned casement window on the upper floor. The west gable end of the barn features a double-width entrance with a pitching door above it. The gable ends are finished with flat coping.
Inside, the barn has six bays with original roof trusses that consist of a tie-beam with raking struts and a collar.
