Description
West Lodge and South Lodge are a pair of lodges, a former coach house, and stables, converted into two houses, dating to around 1900 and designed by H.A. Prothero. The building is constructed of dressed limestone with freestone dressings, and has a Cotswold stone tile roof with gabled ends. Axial stacks are built of ashlar with moulded cornices.
The lodges lie at the south-east and north-west ends of a complex. The south-east lodge incorporates the former coach house, featuring a carriageway at the centre, and stables with a loft above. The north-west lodge serves as the second lodge.
The north-east front is asymmetrical, with five bays. A large, projecting gable is on the right, topped with a ball finial, featuring three- and four-light stone mullion windows. To the left of centre are lower eaves with smaller stone mullion windows. A further range features stone mullion windows set back to the right, and to the right of centre is a wide gable with a ball finial, a four-light mullion window, and a moulded four-centre arch carriage arch with a hoodmould, over a Tudor arch doorway to the right. The carriageway has a three-bay ashlar arcade on one side, and a former coach house on the other, with a covered area open at the rear, supported by a Tuscan column. The rear elevation has cambered arches to the stables on the left, and a gable on the right. Small gabled dormers are present on both the front and rear, with a larger dormer at the centre of the rear elevation.
The interior has not been inspected.
