Description
Coates Mill House is a house largely dating from the early 19th century, although it may incorporate some 18th-century stonework. The lower section of the building is faced with limestone ashlar, while the remainder is painted brickwork. The roof is tiled, with coped gables and chimneys. The house has two storeys and an attic, originally featuring three windows. It now has casement dormers above three sash windows with glazing bars, which have segmental heads on the first floor. A hexagonal bay with a hipped slate roof has been added to the left, and a 16-pane sash window with bars is on the right. A centrally placed 3+3 panelled 19th-century door, partially glazed, is sheltered by a hipped slate porch with glazed sides. The property may be a remnant of a grist mill and bakery previously owned by John Sisam. A stone inscribed 'S Smith 1749' is found in the garden and is thought to have originated from the building.
