Description
This is a barn with a columbarium located at Wick Hill Farm, dated and initialled 'T. Peacey 1807' at the south gable end and on the porch gable. It is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring large finely dressed stone quoins and a corrugated asbestos roof. The barn has a rectangular plan set across the contours of the land, with a projecting porch on the west side that has lean-to extensions, one of which is from the 20th century, on either side of the porch.
On the north-west front, there are double plank doors at the rear of the lean-to extension to the porch, and a 2-light stone-mullioned casement with guard bars above. A circular datestone with radiating rays and the inscription 'Thomas Peacey' along with the date '1807' is located at the center. To the left-hand return of the granary, there is a 2-light window with a heavy-pegged frame. There are also two 20th-century stable doors to the lean-tos on either side and a single 20th-century window in the lean-to to the left.
The south gable end faces the track and features a segmental-headed window and a circular datestone dated and initialled 'T.P. 1807', along with a segmental-headed window in the lean-to to the left. The opposite gable end has a segmental-headed door and three pairs of pigeon holes. The south-east elevation includes central double plank doors and a projecting lean-to with a stone-slate roof; the columbarium has landings that extend from below the eaves to a depth of approximately 2 meters.
Inside, the barn has five bays with original collar and tie-beams and triple purlins. The floor is on two levels, and the granary is lined with dressed stone. The pigeon holes on the south-east side do not pierce the wall of the barn. This structure is an unusual and striking combination of a barn and a columbarium.
