Description

Washpool is a house built in the early 17th century, with extensions added in the late 17th to early 18th centuries. It features coursed roughly squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof and brick stacks, and has a 'T'-shaped plan. The west front shows the earlier range on the left, while the later range projects forward to the right.

On the ground floor of the main body, there are two 3-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods. An early timber-framed dormer with a cove is lit by a 20th-century three-light casement at the eaves, with a 2-light eaves dormer to the right and a small single-light raking dormer upper right. To the left of the projecting gable, there is a 19th-century studded plank door set within a flat-chamfered Tudor-arched surround. The ground floor also includes a four-light 20th-century ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casement and a 2-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casement above.

The south front has two 2-light and one single-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned casement on the ground floor, along with three 2-light eaves dormers. There is a plank door with a single pane at the top located off centre to the left. A two-light casement is visible above the ridge at the gable end of the earlier range. All windows are fitted with leaded panes, some featuring early fastenings. The late 17th to early 18th-century extension has half-hipped gable ends, while the early range includes a chimney gablet at the rear, a projecting gable-end stack, and an axial stack for the later range. The interior has not been inspected, but the older range contains square-panelled timber-framed partition walls.
