Description
This is a detached barn located approximately 5 meters east of Hampen Manor, dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with squared and dressed quoins, and features a roof made of corrugated iron and stone slate with stone ridge tiles. The barn has a 'T' shaped plan, with a projecting porch on the west side and a lean-to on the left of the porch. There is a 20th-century lean-to at the rear left, which is not of special interest. The barn has a high flat-chamfered plinth and a gabled porch on the west side that includes a loft above, accessed via stone steps leading to a plank door on the right side of the porch. There are double doors to the projecting porch and a smaller doorway opposite. A plank door is located in the right gable end, along with a pitching door to the loft. The roof is hipped at the right-hand end. Inside, the barn features four bays with original roof trusses that include collar and tie beams and double butt purlins. This barn forms a picturesque unit at the corner adjacent to the farmhouse.
