Description

South Farm Cottage and Spinney Cottage are a pair of semi-detached cottages built in the mid-19th century and the 20th century. They are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, with roofing materials that include stone slate, slate, and concrete tiles, along with brick stacks. The cottages have a 'T'-shaped plan and feature twin gables at the front, with lean-to porches on either side.

The main body of the cottages is two stories high, with 2-light stone-mullioned casements on the first floor and 3-light stone-mullioned casements on the ground floor, both adorned with stopped hoods and horizontal glazing bars. The door to South Farm Cottage is a part-glazed door from the 19th century, while Spinney Cottage has a similar door located within a corrugated-iron porch.

On the right-hand wall of Spinney Cottage, there are two bull's-eye windows, one above the other, featuring foliate decoration in the spandrels. South Farm Cottage also has similar bull's-eye windows in its gable end, along with a 20th-century three-light window positioned to the right of the bull's-eye windows in Spinney Cottage. The cottages have flat gable end coping and axial stacks. They are particularly prominent in the village landscape, situated at a corner junction of several roads, and remain largely as originally built, reflecting the 'estate cottage' tradition. The interiors have not been inspected.
