Description

Hampen Manor is a detached farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with additions and alterations made in the 18th and mid-19th centuries. The original 17th-century section is constructed of roughly squared limestone rubble with a stone slate roof. A later 18th-century block was added in two phases, built of coursed squared and dressed limestone, and has a concrete tile roof. A mid-19th-century addition is of coursed squared finely dressed stone. The building is arranged in an 'L' shape, with the 17th-century wing on the right and a mid-19th-century extension to the rear left.

The 17th-century section is one-and-a-half storeys high and features a full dormer with a two-light stone-mullioned casement on the left side, above a lean-to porch with a fielded six-panel door. To the right of the porch is a large two-light casement with stanchions and bars. The late 18th-century two-storey, four-windowed block to the left has two and three-light stone-mullioned windows with metal casements. A former central doorway has been blocked and replaced with a two-light metal casement. Access to the main house is now via a panelled door into the mid-19th-century section, above which is a hall light containing coloured glass margins. The mid-19th-century block at the rear is two-and-a-half storeys high and has two and three-light stone-mullioned windows containing sash windows with horns; these windows are hooded with scroll stops. The roof of the mid-19th-century section has flat gable end coping, ornate finials, moulded kneelers, and a triple lateral stack with moulded capping. Gable end stacks are also present on the late 18th-century block. The interior was not inspected.
