Description

This barn, located approximately 80 metres south of Manor Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century and underwent alterations in 1976. It is constructed of coursed rubblestone and features a pantile roof. The barn has elliptically-arched openings with projecting keystones, quoins that support iron pins for hanging doors, and projecting stone sills for the pitching doors. There are slit vents positioned on two levels, with the upper vents having pointed heads.

The north front, facing the yard, consists of four bays and includes a cart-entry porch at the third bay. Originally half-hipped, this porch now has a pent roof and a front wall that projects to either side. It features a wood-lintelled entry with double doors made of corrugated iron, hung with old iron strap hinges. The other bays have vents, and the roof is half-hipped.

On the rear side, the left-hand corner was rebuilt in 1976, and there is a tall, blocked cart-entry. To the right of this entry, there is a board pitching door with a vent below it. The left return has a board pitching door and a bird-hole with a perch in the gable. The right return features two sets of vents flanking a pitching doorway, which has had its door removed. Above this doorway is a vent and a bird-hole, flanked by triangular-set pigeon-holes with ledges.

Inside, there is a loft at the right-hand end, with splayed reveals to the vents. The barn has eight queen-strut roof trusses, two tiers of staggered butt purlins, raking wind braces, and a plank ridge piece. A late 20th-century covered yard attached to the left corner is not considered of special interest.
