Description

Rook Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 17th century, with a date of 1672 noted on the rear north wing, and it has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of rubble and rendered, featuring a double Roman tiled roof with a south gable stack and a ridge stack to the left of the passage, while the rear is pantiled. The farmhouse is arranged in a U-plan with a former through passage and has two storeys with three windows. All windows are either three or four-light casements; those on the first floor center and right, as well as the ground floor center, have segmental heads. There is a French window to the left, and the third bay from the right includes a panelled and glass door with a gabled open porch and decorative bargeboards.

To the left, there is a single-storey lean-to, and to the right, a one-and-a-half storey wing features two three-light casements and a central door, with a dormer to the left that has a two-light window. The south elevation has a 20th-century window with a loading door above it, while the north elevation includes a two-light attic window with a chamfered mullion and iron stanchions, along with a two-light casement at the first floor left. The rear of the farmhouse has a ground floor that features a four-light casement with ovolo mullions and leaded lights, a two-light casement with an iron stanchion, and a two-light casement set in the cambered head of a former through passage door with a moulded frame. There is also a small window with an iron stanchion and leaded lights. The first floor has a 20th-century window and a three-light casement with a segmental head, along with a small gable above that has a four-light window.

The two-storey north wing has one three-light casement on the first floor and two 20th-century windows on the ground floor with a central door, buttress, and battered walls. The south wing, which is one-and-a-half storeys, has a roof light and a roof that sweeps down to the eaves over a 20th-century window and door. Inside, the farmhouse features deep chamfered beams with scroll and bar stops, a winder stair located to the rear left of the passage, and a fireplace in the south room that has a deep lintel with a moulded edge, recesses to the left and right, and a clay oven to the right with beaded decoration.
