Description
Lower Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the mid-18th century, featuring a refronting of an earlier building along with later alterations. It is constructed of rubble and brick, topped with a pantiled roof and a treble Roman tiled roof to the west, with brick and rubble gable stacks on the west side. The structure is 2½ storeys high and has a façade with three windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor. All windows are boxed sashes, except for a round-headed window with four panes and a brick head on the first floor center, a four-pane window on the ground floor left, and a central attic window with a wooden frame and shutters. These all have timber lintels. The central entrance features a six-panelled door with a trellis porch and a flat hood. To the right, there is a projecting block with a bow window on the ground floor left, containing twelve panes, and a four-pane window above, both with gauged brick segmental heads. A lean-to on the left has a plank door with strap hinges and a timber lintel.
The west elevation includes a brick flue and a small segmental-headed window with six panes and a brick head. A two-storey rear wing has one window on the first floor and two on the ground floor, all of which are 20th century. There is a single-storey addition to the south with a plank door and timber lintel. The east elevation features an unglazed attic window with three lights, iron stanchions, shutters, and a timber lintel. The rear has a 20th-century porch and various windows, including two boxed sashes at the ground floor with horns, a three-light casement at the first floor, and a small opening at the attic with a wooden frame and shutters. There is also a 20th-century plank door to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
