Description

Hollyhocks is a house, now divided into two homes, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of rubble and rendered, featuring a double Roman tiled roof with ridge coping and brick gable stacks. There is a break in the roof line to the right of the former through passage. The original layout was a three-room plan.

The south side of the house has two and a half storeys, while the north side has two storeys and features four windows. The ground floor includes a single light casement, a 20th-century door with a hood, two 20th-century casements, a small window of six panes that replaced a former door, a three-light casement, a plank door in a moulded surround, and another three-light casement. The first floor has three three-light casements and one metal-framed casement, with two 20th-century dormers to the right. To the left, there is a single-storey lean-to that is nearly contemporary with the house, featuring thick walls and splayed window openings.

At the rear, there is a single-storey 20th-century wing that incorporates an outbuilding, with four casements to the left and 20th-century windows and a door to the right, along with two dormers similar to those on the front. Inside, the casements have square wooden mullions with small scroll moulding on the inner corners, and there are chamfered and stopped beams, some of which are boxed in. A cupboard next to the fireplace in the south room features a panel above with a heart shape and two scrolls cut out. The fireplace has a chamfered wooden lintel with scroll and notch stops.
