Description

This is a barn and adjoining stables located approximately 30 meters south of Longfurlong Farmhouse, dating from the mid to late 18th century. The structure is built from coursed, roughly squared, and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof, although some slate roofing is present on the former open-fronted store, which has been converted into a stable on the north-west side.

The barn has a long rectangular plan and features a projecting porch on the north-west side. A stable with a loft was added slightly later to the south-east gable end. The former open-fronted store and the stable are positioned at right angles to the barn on the north-west side and are later connected to the barn by a short length of wall. The north-west porch has an off-centre double doorway with a timber lintel, and there is a corresponding double doorway in the wall opposite. The gable end includes triangular ventilation holes and an owl hole. There is also a stable door leading to the adjoining stable and a pitching window for the former loft located in the upper left. The gable ends are finished with flat coping.

Inside the barn, there are three and a half bays featuring collar and tie beam roof trusses. The stable contains three bays, also with collar and tie beam trusses and double purlins.
