Description
Longfurlong Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century, with later extensions. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof and features ashlar stacks. The main structure is rectangular, with a lean-to on the left gable end and a later two-storey extension at the rear right, which includes an attic and cellar. The extension has a 20th-century lean-to porch and a single-storey wash house extension at the gable end.
The garden front is symmetrical and has three windows, which are lit by three-light segmental-headed casements with horizontal glazing bars on both the ground and first floors. The attic features twin gablets with two-light segmental-headed casements. There is a 20th-century glazed door with glazing bars set within a segmental-headed surround, sheltered by a mid-19th-century open-sided porch that has a curved and hipped canopy with geometric wrought iron decoration. The left gable end has a two-light segmental-headed casement in the attic, while the rear extension has two and three-light segmental-headed windows. The wash house features a 20th-century three-light casement and a plank door to the right. The gables have flat coping and gable-end stacks.
Inside, the farmhouse has flag floors and a fireplace with a dressed stone surround in the wash house, which includes a bread oven with a cast iron door made by the Dale Company, and a washing copper to the left of the bread oven. The building was once known as Newman's Farm and was undergoing alterations at the time of the resurvey in November 1986.
