Description

SOUTHROP SOUTHROP VILLAGE SP 1903-2003 14/239 Elm Tree Cottage and Cosy Cottage (previously listed as Cottages 26.1.61 50 yards S.W. of Yew Tree Cottage) GV II Row of 2 houses. Early C18; mid-late C18 additions. Random rubble limestone to Cosy Cottage, coursed rubble with ashlar bands to Elm Tree Cottage; brick rebuilt chimneys; stone slate roof. Two-storey with attic. West front: 2-window fenestration to Elm Tree Cottage to left, all recessed chamfered mullioned casements, 3-light to left; single-light to right of doorway with timber lintel and plank door, 2-light above. Single gabled roof dormer. Ridge-mounted chimney marks junction with the earlier Cosy Cottage to right with timber casement having timber lintel above gabled porch with C20 door. North end: small outbuilding attached to gable end with doorway having timber lintel and plank doors on east side. South end: gable end with single-window fenestration, 3- light mullioned casement to ground floor, timber casement with concrete lintels to upper floor and attic. Interiors not inspected.
