Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a detached house located in Southrop, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid to late 18th century. The building is constructed of random rubble limestone, features rubble chimneys, and has a stone slate roof. It is two stories tall and has a T-shaped plan. The 17th-century section faces west and has a two-window arrangement, primarily consisting of recessed chamfered mullioned casements. The ground floor has a two-light window on the left and a three-light window on the right, while the upper floor has a two-light casement on the right and a timber fixed-light window with glazing bars and timber lintels. The upper floor windows were likely added when the eaves were raised, probably in the 18th century. There is a central doorway with a 20th-century door and a gabled porch hood. The ridge-mounted chimney is a notable feature. The north and south gable ends of the front range each have single-window casement fenestration with timber lintels and blocked attic slit vents. The rear wing has a lower pitched roof. The interior has not been inspected.
