Description
Ivy Cottage and Chestnut Cottage are a pair of houses situated in Pitchcombe village. They date from the late 17th century, with an addition made in the early to mid-18th century. The houses are constructed of random rubble limestone, with ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof to the front, and concrete tile to the rear.
Chestnut Cottage, the earlier house on the left, has two gables. It features scattered windows including a 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement with a hoodmould on each floor below the left gable. There are also two 2-light casements to the ground and upper floors below the right gable, and a small 2-light window in the gable. A central, 20th-century gabled porch has been added. Two offset buttresses are visible to the right. A central chimney rises from the ridge, topped with a moulded cap.
To the right is Ivy Cottage, the later addition which has a two-window frontage. It features 2-light chamfered mullioned casements, with one 3-light window having a hoodmould. A central doorway is sheltered by a rustic gabled porch, and features a chamfered segmental arched doorway with an old plank door. A central gabled dormer is fitted with an iron casement. The west end displays a single window on the ground floor and 2-light windows on each floor above. The interiors have not been inspected.
